I've been looking at saddle ads because I think I might sell mine next spring and get something different. I can't believe how many ads say things like how they're in 'new' condition or one this morning said it 'stunning' with a deep brown 'show' finish on it. If I showed up at a show with this old saddle everyone would laugh. It's obviously old and is an old style like they used in the sixties, there's not a lick of silver on it, the cantle is wavy and the stirrups are the aluminum around wood ones. It has a small 6 3/4 inch gullet and is a 14 inch seat. They want 800 bucks. It's worth maybe 300. It would be a good colt starting saddle. What bugs me is that they're trying to make it sound wonderful when it's obvious from the pictures that it's just an old saddle. I see this so often. The saddle looks well used, which is fine, but don't say it's in like new condition if it isn't. Mine is in like new condition. I haven't ridden lots over that past few years and I don't even hook my buckle to the keeper when I take it off so it doesn't get wavy. It's covered at all times and well cared for.
I guess I'm just having another crabby day. I'm getting cabin fever from being in the house for too long. I can't go out because it's so cold. I'm tired of feeling like crap. I can't do anything about a saddle right now anyway.

And why are Tuckers the same price used as new? When you can find one, that is. I think they're wonderfully comfortable but I'm not looking for one but my daughter wants one.

I am sorry, I don't know anything about saddles, but if I could, I would run right over to your house right now, and give you a hug. It truly sucks that you are feeling so bad right now, and it doesn't help that we are being daylight deprived as well. If you can only endure the next few months, spring will get here and with that new life, and new beginnings.
NHG I think you are one of the bravest people I know. My prayers are with you every day.

Aw thanks DG! I don't feel very brave right now, I'm just miserable. So many side effects from the chemo and two more months to go. Yucky.

Oh NHG, you are NOT a whiner, maybe a wino, but not a whiner. I am an A#1 whiner because I have absolutely nothing to complain about Maybe think of it as a creative exercise, feel free to share with us all of your whining. Here's a complaint I have (and you'll see how insignificant my complaints are). I made a butternut squash last night and it was AWFUL. I mean with a name like "butternut", wouldn't that taste good? It oughta be freaking fantabulous! But no, it was grainy, bland blech. So my complaint is that this butternut squash wasn't made up of stardust so much as the dust from under the bed. I am constantly amazed how some folks think that just saying it, makes it true. They must think we're as stupid as they are. Or they're hoping anyway. Caveat emptor, as they say.

Is that the first time you had it ? Maybe you just got a bad one. I've had it and liked it but I'm a huge fan of spaghetti squash and have it really often. Occasionally I get a crappy one with little taste and more fibery (is that a word?) than it should be.

A lot of people say the tuckers are comfy. Well I bought one used for Lint. I knew the lady that sold it so I knew it was taken care of and not ridden in much. I hate it. After being in it for 2hrs my butt was sore. My 10 yro Eli Miller is more comfy even after 8hrs in the saddle.I think because my Eli has an A-Fork. SO that makes it more narrow. Another reason the tucker isn't comfy for me. My new Big Horn is comfy and will be more comfy once I get the stirrup fenders loosened up more. The only other saddle that I had that I rode for hours in was a Circle Y Park and Trail. But mine was an older better made one.
I hear ya on the pricing of used saddles. I went to the PFI Western Store. Which is a high dollar western store here. And I was looking at used saddles. They were SO over priced. I looked at one the fender had a slice in it and had an inch of dirt on it and they wanted 600$ for it. Just ridiculous!!

I don't know if this helps you or not and know NOTHING about Tucker saddles but remembered seeing some ads for them.... lakeland.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=tucker%20saddle&sort=rel
If this didn't link correctly go to... www.craigslist. Florida type in the box "Tucker saddles" and a few decent priced for some appeared...
