What great pictures. You should be very proud of him, he is very handsome. Is he the father of this year's babies?

Thank you. No. The stud I put pictures of riding him is the father. Basco does not have licence for breeding yet.

His parents are gray/white but he's black. Will he gray out? And he has some blue in his eyes? It looks like his mom has light coloured eyes, too, is that right? And he has to be licensed to be a sire of a registerable foal? This is all very interesting to me!
And, he's so handsome!!

No. He will not gray out. He will stay black. His mother is blind on that eye in the picture. So that is why it looks lighter. He was born with one blue eye. On the last picture his eye was infected for few days so thats why that left eye in the picture has little bit of a blue color. But other is naturally blue, and his vision is normal. A stalliom has to be registered to be a sire to a foal. We have selection program that chooses witch stallions are good breeding stallions.

Interesting, thanks! We need something like that here. All breeding stock should have to pass inspection. Mares that have injured themselves and can't be ridden don't automatically make good broodmares and I've seen some really crappy stallions offered for stud just because they have colour. I think it's time to start breeding for not only conformation, and not what conformation is 'in' at the time like the small feet on the stock horses a while back and the surprisingly common downhill stock horses these days, but for temperament. When I say temperament I don't mean being cowy, I mean being manageable and having a good work ethic. I see completely unbroken and not even handled broodmares going to auction and being rescued all the time. The rescue can't even get near them and they have to learn to trust people and be around them. The breeders wonder why they have to sell their yearlings at auction where lots go to slaughter. We need responsible breeders and we have a real shortage of them.

He is absolutely STUNNING. i see his number and i also see the tatoo on his left hip. what is that for. your country does it the correct way, to make sure the best is bred to the best. in this country they would call it a abuse of power and a governing body would take away our right to breed. that is why there are so many animals that do not have homes. and some awful products of some awful parents. (could say the same about people too. < but that is another thread and topic. )

Basco is a very handsome horse, and his mom is absolutely gorgeous, but then, that is to be expected really. And I love the brick stables, that's amazing

Every breed that we have of horses in Croatian, stallions of that breeds have to have licence in order to breed mares. In our breeding program stallion goes threw different tests, first they check their conformation, health, they measure them, check whether the measures conform to standards of the breed. Then if they passes, stallion goes threw test of being riden, driving and leading on hand. In that test they look at stallions behaviour, walks, and temperament. In the end every important part off his body(neck, legs, chest...) got points, also they got points for all the things I mentioned. Points are added together and if there are a sufficient number of points stallion gets license and can have offspring.
horselady- that is not a tattoo, it is a brand, bay leaf represents private breeding, and H above his number is Hrvatska(Croatia), number represents which foal is he in a row in that year when he was born.
hugs- our hauses and barns and everything is made out of bricks :)
Thank you all :)

He is absolutely stunning!
I like the way your country determines whether or not a stud will be allowed to breed. We need more of that around here. Do they have similar requirements for the mares?

I don't think it would be doable to do the same thing with the mares because there is just to much of them. I don't think how could they gather all the mares in one place once a year. I don't know how I would do it as I have 4 mares. They do come and check every 6 month to make shure all the mares you have are healthy and they run blood test. So better something then nothing.

I am heartbroken to say that our loved stallion has broke his hind leg, and is likely to be put to sleep today. I am shaking and crying and just please sorry I won't be around much. My family is crushed. Vet is here at this moment , we are still thinking what to do. He is suffering a lot. Please prayer for us to be strong. This is a real test God has put in front off me. Why is this happening to me all the time. I can't take it anymore.
