So my daughter has decided to sell her horse and get a different one. Her horse is a great guy but I've long felt that they weren't a match so I'm okay with her moving on. Plus she's been riding my horse-who used to be her horse- and she misses him and wants one more like him. So she went to see a lovely well bred and very well trained mare that happens to even look alot like him. The downside is that she has a right rear pastern that's angled in a bit. I wish I could post a picture but there's no way I can from my phone. Normally this would be a dealbreaker for us but she's so nice and has such a great personality that she's not excluding her yet. Any thoughts? She doesn't want a horse that will be crippled by ten years old or to worry all the time.

I'd pass as she's a mare lol!....but aside from that, strong pasterns are a must, second to hooves IMO, so any Pastern issues I would say no thanks:)

Pasterns deformity is a substantial issue unless your daughter plans to never ride hard, fast or long... A weak point in the conformation that is such a major weight bearer wag finger... for me that would be a no-go...not even a consideration regardless of how sweet a personality she is... You can't ride a cripple...why would you knowingly chance bringing in a horse who has such a greater chance of leg issues and becoming a pasture pet.. ...think this will be you if you concede and allow this horse home...

Could you show the picture to your vet and see what s/he has to say about it? Maybe they could tell you if it's worth doing a PPE or better to just pass on the horse.
Good luck!

So my daughter asked them for the vet records from when they had the vet check the mare's fetlock/pastern and now they're not getting back to her. So that's our answer.

So that's our answer. sorry, but when you think about it... Are you really surprised? I'm not and have never seen what it appears as... Keep looking...the perfect match with no gross malformations is around the corner for all of you.

I suppose they think you guys are smart and better back off than sell you a potential problem we had a horse come in for retirement with his left side front and rear crooked or lopsided and the owners paid alot of money for him. of course they fell in love and the horse would not pick up canter going to the left .
a horse will come along so keep looking.

They never responded but have relisted her at a thousand dollars higher and included more pictures and the crooked pastern can be clearly seen in one of the pics. But there's an ad for a 3 year old mare that's well started and also a palomino with great breeding and she's located about 20 minutes from our house. The price is right and my daughter's going to go see her.

Thanks LD. She found her new horse last night. She wanted a flashy papered mare. She's buying the pally 4 year old mare. She's pretty green but is friendly and when H rode her she was responsive to learning. Excellent breeding. Not perfect conformation but decent enough and only 2700 bucks. Its almost impossible to find a horse with perfect conf and a good mind so she's fine with it.

I'm so happy for your daughter. Sounds like she is a nice mare. Is she home yet? Pics? Have you been able to go see her?

I'm only on here through my phone so I don't know how to post pics. I don't have any, my daughter does. I can't go see her yet, I'm still mostly bedridden and can't go in a car for long because of the drain that runs through my buttock. It hurts so much I can't sit on it.

Crap, I went on my computer just now and can't log in here. My password disappeared and I don't know what it is. So I got it to send me an email but I can't find those either. I got a new desktop just before my surgery and it has Windows 8.0 and its a pia to navigate. Plus after this long I've forgotten what I did figure out. So its through my phone still for now. Sigh. Ha ha, I has to do it.

So H's horse sold today after passing a vet exam and she's picking up Fox tomorrow. She sold him for 6500. I'm surprised. He has great breeding and the new owner is totally impressed with the training she did but even in Alberta that's a great price. I'll try to get pics of the new girl up soon. She's almost a match to my Prince. Dark palomino with a star and strip and two back socks. I can't wait to see them together. I won't get out to the barn until next week at the soonest as my drain isn't coming until maybe Monday.

I'll send a message to the admins to alert them you forgot your log-in. Not sure you can even contact them without it...
Hang tight rescue on the way... Admins should have it or some way of getting you re-allowed in on that new computer and system. I'll send a message to horselady too... she has Windows 8 too so maybe she knows a secret she can get to you or post it here for you to follow...

I know! I still can hardly believe what she got for him. He didn't even offer less. He said he'd been looking at a lot of horses and had been very disappointed so far. This guy has been reining trained but the new owner intends to ride hom english. He works with a coach at Spruce Meadows and apparently knows his stuff. He was very impressed with him.
