So this was the first chance I had to ride Isis since October due to stupid snow, ice and cold. I'm happy with the way he behaved while far from perfect he listened and didn't do anything stupid, we only had one nervous attack at a lawnmower but we passed unscathed, not bad for a horse people were telling me to sell for meat as he was dangerous! heres a clip of mounting, he did spook at the pad when I put it on him but saddled up fine, I didn't lunge him, it was windy and I just braved it and got on! youtu.be/UETb8RV984Eheres a clip of our funky dismount, yes I know I'm all wrong but it's due to my stupid back and now my knees are going, I almost collapsed when I hit the ground lol! youtu.be/jEUZpZgKfRw

Thanks everyone I try not to act nervous as the last trainer said he is so sensitive he can read your moods, he had that little jump shy when I was leading him round but I ignored it, I don't even acknowledge it anymore and he seems to get over it faster! i don't think ill have him in the happy mouth much longer, I did find yesterday the 2 times he did get a bit panicky when I bumped his mouth to get his attention it really didn't have much effect, I have a bit the trainer said is ideal for him I just didn't feel he was ready for it, it was too sever IMO but I am starting to see what she meant, I'll give it a few more rides though, his teeth are overdue anyway, uh there's always something.

He looked pretty relaxed. His head was at a good level and he seemed pretty chilled out.

So glad I didn't change his bit oday as he was a right dick!
From the minute I got on and he acted up to a half hour before I got off he was horrible, at one point I actually thought I'd have to get off and lead him as he just wouldn't budge!
He was spooking at everything today,,neighing at everything, just stopping dead even from a trot and refusing to move forward or even turn his head.
At one point he had a complete temper tantrum, squealed, tucked his head in and his hindquarters, I bumped the left rein hard and booted him hard with my left foot and he shot forward 3 feet then refused to move again, I whacked him with my hand on his butt which moved him, I'd get a few feet forward then he would just stop again, it was soooo frustrating, this went on for quite a while and it was hot so he was getting sweaty as was I.
I was so lucky with all the cars I met today everyone stopped or came past slowly, although one did backfire a few times on the way by, not the drivers fault but weirdly Isis didn't care! ...oh but that white line on the road was a killer white line!
Then I'd get him trotting and instead of being his lazy self he would take the bit and start powering on lowering his head and threatening to take off, of course slowing him down was no easy feat without creating tension of sorts, what a crazy ride lol!
I met the neighbour at one point when he was acting really stupid along the road at 2 horses on one side and machinery in the field but not running on the other side and he's like that horse is going to kill you one of these days, his wife came out to watch lol!
But we both survived, somewhat tired in my case, I'd planned to put a short rode on Ira but that will have to wait, the sun and Isis have drained me and the kennels is pretty busy.
Horses are such fun arent they?!

Good for you for sticking with it and finally making him behave. It's so strange how one day they are great for you and the next they are butt heads.

I know, it's weird isn't it, obviously he just wasn't in the mood but all I wanted him to do was walk quietly along the road with the odd trot, his fault he got in such a state! Im a very stubborn rider, the more they fart about the more I push them to if you know what I mean, I used to be very good with wayward ponies and crazy ottb's as I wouldn't give in, as long as they don't rear I'm ok, that scares the crap out of me. i know Isis has a history of rearing but I honestly didn't feel in danger of that at any point, a couple of times he offered to buck and I felt him think about setting his jaw and carrying me, it's prob just a stage he's going through as he's gaining confidence and pushing his luck lol!

One driver was awesome, it was a company van, wish I could remember the name as I'd call and thank them, he slowed right down and stopped and asked if I was ok, makes a change from the crazies that almost hit your back end on the way past even though I make it very clear that I want them to slow or stop, I've had drivers still drive past fast even when I'm taking up 3/4 of the road asking them to stop with a hand signal and my horse is obviously panicking, idiots!

Sorry you had such a rough ride today, but kudos to you for sticking with it. Hopefully next time Isis will be a perfect gentleman.

So today was better, he was an idiot when I first got on, I couldn't even get my other foot in the stirrup till he settled, rode him down the driveway and he's spooking at everything so I got off and tightened the cinch up and took him along to where he acted up the last time, he was constantly spooking but I just shortened the reins and rode him keeping him straight between my legs, a few cars passed he was good, I met the guy along the road who I met last time he was misbehaving and stopped to chat, Isis stood real nice other than getting annoyed at deer flies, then I rode him past he place he had a fit, he was good, looked a bit but walked by with a little persuasion, then I turned him round, decided to ask him to trot, lol!....no way, he was so lazy, the harder I kicked him, yes I lost it and did the beginner boot thing he would just stop dead pin his ears and swish his tail, I slapped him with my hand so he shot off, then the rest of he way back I just did walk trot transitions till he was moving for my first couple nudges and clicking, overall happy with his performance today, didn't do too much as it was hot and I forgot to put sunscreen on, washed him over when I got back to keep him cleanish hopefuly!
I really just think he's going through that pushing the boundaries stage, he threatens and acts up a lot but he's too goddamm lazy to do anything too drastic!

Glad to hear he was a bit better today. I agree, I think he is just testing his boundaries and trying to see what you will let him get away with. Stick to your guns!
