This past weekend my granddaughters were over again and the weather was beautiful, so we did some riding. I was so proud of my oldest granddaughter, Megan (6 years old) - she rode Sis at a trot for the first time, and she had a blast!
Please excuse the weedy mess in my round pen - the belt on our mower broke, so I wasn't able to get it mowed.

A little equestrian in the making. i see a youth saddle. helmet and boots in her future . ? don't you grandma??? i wish my grandkids were that happy to be around the horses. now they are all in their 20's and do not even know the horses names. sad.

I just found this thread... I know there are many more I miss, probably need to spend more time online LOL At first I didn't recognize Sis in her "summer" colors Peachie is a similar color so just when you think they can't get dirtier...they do. I love the look on Sis' face, so calm and sweet, gosh, what a honey puff. I've got a big smile on my face thinking of how wonderful it is to share your love of horses with your grand daughters. Yay to you!

Thank you, . Sis is worth her weight in gold! She has her problems, as they all do, but the majority of the time she's a real gem, and I thank my lucky stars every day that I found her.
I love that my granddaughters share my love of horses, and I'm so glad that I am able to share my horses with them.

Today was the first day we were able to give pony rides on Pocket (with a saddle on). Unfortunately Megan had a friend's birthday party to go to, so she wasn't here, but Kaci thoroughly enjoyed her pony time!
Before I let Kaci ride I worked Pocket in the round pen a little just to get her focused. In the process I was finally able to get her to lunge to the right! It wasn't as smooth as when she lunges to the left, but it's a start!
Kaci got to help me groom Pocket to get her ready to be tacked up.
Is there anything sweeter than a little girl and her pony? I don't think so!
Kaci had a blast riding Pocket!
I was so proud of Pocket. She behaved beautifully! At one point my son was leading her around and Pocket suddenly stopped and refused to go forward. We quickly realized that Kaci and the saddle had slipped a little and that's why Pocket had stopped! Once Kaci and the saddle were righted, then Pocket was happy to start walking again. At another point while Kaci was riding the wind picked up and blew Kaci's hat off and it flew by Pocket. Pocket startled just a tiny bit and that was it! I love that she knows to take care of her precious cargo!
After the ride was over and we had untacked and groomed Pocket, my son let Kaci sit on her bareback in the barn for a few minutes.
What a fun morning!

How wonderful that you are able to share your joy and love of horses with your granddaughters. My grandmother was the one who got me into horses and we still share that love to this day. It was such a wonderful bonding experience.
Pocket is such an amazing little pony to take such good care of her precious cargo.
Thanks for sharing the pics.

Megan was able to come over yesterday, so we saddled Pocket up and did pony rides again. I was hesitant to do it at first because we were having strong, gusty winds that day, but Megan really, really, REALLY wanted to be able to ride her pony, so I decided we'd give it a try. I figured I would work Pocket a bit first again and, if I felt that she was being too nervous because of the wind, I would call off the pony rides. It took a little longer to get her settled down and paying attention, but not much. I was once again very pleased with how well Pocket behaved.

Megan's first time riding Pocket saddled. She really enjoyed herself.
Kaci of course got to ride again.
It was another great day of granddaughter/pony fun!
