I finally got a chance to say hi and introduce myself so here we go! I'm just realizing my dream of owning a horse, in my 30s. I'd always wanted a horse and to learn how to ride and a year ago it finally came to be. I started with lessons and then met a very interesting boy named Hershey. He was 5 years old, and an Icelandic-Paso Fino-Quarter Horse cross. We had some beautiful lessons together and soon after, I bought him. I'm currently riding English, and he's teaching me his passion - jumping! I'd also really like to get into barrel racing (for fun). Cross-country has started to peak my curiosity as well, and I'd love to try it when my jumping is a little more consistent.
As a totally green horse owner and rider I find myself spending a lot of time googling and just lurking on forums reading as much as possible about things I feel like I need to learn. Any help, correcions or advice is always welcome, and I will probably be asking a lot of questions! Unfortunately my boyfriend isn't into horses, and I don't have very many 'horsey' friends so this is also a way for me to share my news, and to share in others experiences.

Welcome to the forum, and ask any question you need to ask. we are very helpful and answer with honesty and helpfulness. i too, bought my first horse at 27 but i did not have lessons or even know that GREEN meant not trained, i always thought green was a color. and here i am upteen years later having a horse rescue and retirement facility and having done jumping, dressage and just plain riding. and loving every minute of it.

Welcome from a fellow Albertan!
We are quite a friendly bunch here, so don't be afraid to ask questions (and post pictures). We all start out somewhere, and a little knowledge is never a bad thing!
Congratulations on your first horse and again WELCOME!!

.....HOWDY!!
OK...I get to be different...
Welcome from hot and sunny Florida...none of that and freezing temps for me. wag finger
Welcome to the family here. We all bring different ideas, experiences and lifestyles to each and every post.
What we all have in common is our love of horses. The present, future or past animals that we have/had in our lives.
When you get a chance some photos of your horse so we can ooh an aah over him!!
Remember, we all had to learn someplace and somehow...asking questions we all do no matter how "experienced" any smart horseowner is...

Welcome from another Albertan. We live in southern Alberta. You're jumping? Good for you! It would be lovely to see pictures of your interestingly bred horse!

Welcome. You will find a lot of good information here. This is a great forum. You can ask everything. There is no stupid question.
And yes, I am from Europe, so you will soon realise my spelling is not so good, but I do my best :-)
Check in as much as you can and enjoy.

Don't know about from a phone, but I use photobucket. Most photos don't meet the size restrictions on here so resizing first then posting I find easiest from the above place.
When you do add photos, use the "add attachment" button, go through the steps to add that photo..... Your photo probably also won't "show" until you hit the post button, then it goes poof and is in sight!! Trust me, if I can do it... anyone can!! smilie dancing
Ohhh...and if you haven't experienced our {funny faces and others} emoticons...they can replace certain words like.... I wrote photo because if I write pictures you see a p i c t u r e! If you don't wish for any emoticons in your post, click the smiley face, scroll to the bottom and disable all emoticons from that post....needs done on any post no emoticons wanted in.

Thanks! I'm so bad for going on my laptop I decided to try this Tapatalk so i can access the forum easier from my phone (look at me getting all tech-savvy!). Seems straightforward to upload photos from my phone but it gets hung up at 70% and just sits there forever. I'll have to use photo bucket. Might be my project tomorrow night on nightshift if works quiet :-)

I have been tempted to try tapatalk and see what it is all about. is it for just forums or is it for other things as well. ?/ and how do you like it. and with photobucket at least your photos can be brought up on any computor at anytime. so if something happens to the computor you still have the photos.

I like Tapatalk, it makes it so much easier to check the forum vs trying to navigate it via the browser on my phone. It notifies you when your thread gets a reply as well, although I'm sure you can turn that feature off like with Facebook. I'm assuming it's just forums but I also haven't played around with anything else. I got logged into my photobucket and here are some pics of my boy. :-) The last one you can see where we had clipped him, all nice and shiny and Bay, and then where he still has some winter coat shedding which looks a very cool brindle-like bay and brown.

Aw, he's a cutie! And he looks like he has a nice soft eye - the first thing I always look at with a horse. I am looking forward to hearing all about your adventures together.
