I've had a sore eye for a couple months now.
It looked like about 3 stys, one right on the bottom inside lid and 2 just under lash line.
I went to doctor as the usual remedies were not clearing it up, he gave me cream and antibiotics, it seemed a bit better after a week or so but still didn't feel quite right, then of course I went on vacation, came back it was xmas hustle bustle so I didn't get anything else done with it and now every morning I wake up it feels sore, gritty and watery.
Looking at it I can't really see anything, I just know it's not right.
Im wondering if maybe I should go see the optician rather than the doctor this time, what does everyone think, can opticians prescribe meds?

Go to an eye doctor. It maybe more than a regular doctor can see. Yes opticians can prescribe scripts.

A Ophthalmologist is a medical doctor that specializes in the eyes, they do surgeries and deal with medical conditions and diseases of the eye.
A Optometrist have a doctorate degree too, but not a medical degree. They are mostly focused on vision or things that affect the vision and correcting it. They can prescribe a few eye medicines (allergies, antibiotics) in some states. Not sure if they can do Lasik surgery...
An Optician is the technician in an optometrist office, they can usually do all the testing for example eye pressure, take "images" of retina, etc...
See what particular doctor is covered by your health insurance...but a eye issue lasting more than a few days is a real need to be seen.
You only have 1 set of eyes to last you forever...take the very best of care of them!

Also ask if it could be ocular rosacea, I had some problems a while back with severe swelling of the upper eyelid to where my eye was almost closed at times and went the rounds of eye doctors. Nothing was found but one of the Drs mentioned did I know I had ocular rosacea? In looking online, I saw treatment was antibiotics, so asked the Dr. for a script, and low and behold my eye got better, no thanks to the experts. I know you said you had antibiotics, but were they drops? They had given me antibiotic drops which didn't work, only the oral prescription worked.
Here are the symptoms:
Dry eyes Burning or stinging in the eyes Itchy eyes Grittiness or feeling of having a foreign body in the eye or eyes Blurred vision Sensitivity to light (photophobia) Redness (erythema) Visibly dilated small blood vessels on the white part of the eye Red, swollen eyelids Sties Tearing
It's worth asking about. Just my 2 cents. Val

Thanks everyone, I didn't realise there were so many types of eye doctors, never had issues before.
I have some of these symptoms Val but not all, funnily enough I had the worst Rosacea of my life the last year but have it cleared up pretty much now with a new skincare routine:)
I guess I'll just go to the doctor but this time I'll insist on the good one I know, he has already referred me to the allergist for my foot incident on vacation so I think if he feels my eye needs a specialist he will do that for me:)

One thing to consider is if you wear makeup - specifically eye makeup - the brushes or applicators you use could be reinfecting your eyes. I had a stye once and the dr said to clean all my makeup brushes and toss out anything like mascara or eye shadow that I'd been using lately.

I would suggest going to see an optometrist. Generally you see them first and if it's over their scope of practice they will refer you to and ophthalmologist. Doctors do a good job of guessing the basics but your probably better off with a professional who does only that. Hope everything works out
