Bareback riding is great fun. It does though concentrate your weight in a very small area of the spine under your butt. A saddle with a tree, English, Western or dressage will also apply "pressure" to the back but it is spread over a greater surface area than your human behind does. Now, I understand the concept of treeless, but personally will not own one. I feel I am to heavy to ride treeless or bareback for hours anymore.... The saddlewill help to distribute my weight. Needless to say, you can get a article to praise or refute any subject matter concerning horses.
There is nothing quite like riding bareback. The feeling of muscles rippling, gathering and exploding....the feeling of riding as one with your horse....incredible... Then of course there is the feeling of ........face plant and now needing to find a way to get back on when your horse is rather "large" to jump up that high..
To me the important part is spending quality time with our riding friend and partner. Keeping them happy and sound while riding, not getting back or hoof sore or sore anyplace else while we work in harmony is what it is all about. ....spending time together....PRICELESS!!

I agree with all being said. I never said that it is better for a horse to ride bareback than with saddle. I just said, me and my horse for longer walks prefer bareback. I am 48 kg, Or somwhere in range of 110 lb, I dont think it is a problem for my horse to carry me for hour or two without saddle in out walks together.

The day of me seeing that weight left so long ago it isn't even a foggy remembrance.
You're lightweight, your horses are very broad backed, strong.......the combination and the fact you are a extremely good rider makes a world of difference than having a mediocre rider thumping around directly on the animals spine and not ever lightening their seat while astride.
Enjoy those quiet peaceful walks Lip....it is to me some of the best riding times... Just me and my horse on a quiet ride ....... 633995

Lip I commend you for being a bare back rider. Me I can't get up bare back. Never could!! If I did ride bare back I wouldn't stay up there long. It's the age thing. So I need the mounting block, and saddle. I don't think my horses get sore from the saddle. After a good ride I always run my fingers down their back and see it there is any soreness. So far none. Now as for me that's a different story.

I will post that artical. I use only my phone now. I shoud go home on friday so I will post it for you. I enjoy bareback, as well with the saddle, as long as I am on my horse. It is something that only we horse lovers can understand. :-)

I'm with you Lip. As long as I am on (or even just around) my horse, I am happy.

LOL Maybe that's how we ought to "judge" horse disciplines, by how good they smell
