I feel ready to start jumping again, it's been a long long time, ie 11 years plus!
Since Isis left I've been riding Dax more or less every day, I'm really getting my balance and confidence back, I've even started loping the ditches and apart from the odd little buck alls going well, it's been a long time since I even cantered, funny how you just lose it sometimes.
I free jumped Dax a couple years ago, he showed no scope at all lol!...I think though that with work he will get it, Ira on the other hand who is one of the clumsiest horses I've ever known loved it, cleared them like a pro and was keen for more!
Ive missed jumping and competing since moving to Canada, I'm desperate to do it again although I don't know where but hopefully by the time we are ready I'll know where the shows are.
Dax is still too wide for the English saddle I have but I'm hoping soon he will be able to squeeze into it lol!
I already have 2 cavalettis and 2 sets of wings and poles ready and now I have a pretty decent flat area to set them up.
Im so excited, even the thought of trotting over a line of poles is getting me going!
I will set the video up and take footage from the beginning, bore you all to tears lol!
I was riding back today and there was a fallen tree, I was desperate to jump it, but I didnt, aside from my poorly placed western saddle lol!....and the fact Dax can't jump really I decided the ditch prob wasn't the best place for him to learn!
Anyway, I will update this post soon, they are both getting their teeth fixed up tomorrow and I will try the English saddle on Dax again this week, but if it doesn't fit I can still do some poles with him in the western:)

Good for you! Rehoming Isis was probably the best thing you've done for a while. You can ride Dax and not feel guilty about not riding Isis. And Dax gives you confidence and will continue to do so but Isis wasn't making you comfortable at all. I want to see jumping pictures, even if it's over cavalettis.

I am sure it won't be boring, to watch your videos. I would love it. When I was a kid I found out, by accident, that my QH could jump. I had been told QHs work cattle, so they don't jump. I was so excited about having the only jumping QH in the world, I jumped her over everything I could find. Geez I was a dumb kid.
I have set up a couple of small jumps to have them hop over while lunging. Diamond seems to love it. She even will jump over the 1 foot jump even if I don't ask her to. I don't have the courage to even ride her over them, not even at a trot. I will just have to watch you jump.

I have never been into jumping, but I saw your pictures from young days when you were compiting, and it was impressive. I would love to see you jump with that little horse :-)

It's like a huge weight off my shoulders since Isis left, I'm starting to enjoy my horses again, I was in the tack store in sherwood park Saturday and the owner was so pleased I'd moved Isis on too, she said one day you were going to get hurt bad on that horse!.....let's just hope he keeps behaving and they don't bring him back!

I have been wanting to take English lessons again - not sure if I want to jump, dressage or cross country (or maybe all of the above)! But for right now, all unnecessary finances are on hold.
I have jumped Mister over some logs on the trails before. Usually he just hops right over them but one time he jumped one like a rabbit - all four feet off the ground at the same time and then landed at the same time. I was in hysterics laughing. So glad no one saw us!
I'm glad to hear you are at peace with your decision to rehome Isis and are starting to enjoy the horses more.

Now you have the opportunity and time to start to jump again, perhaps just a little log and hop over will be a great way to start. and i think Dax will love the new game.

I've never jumped a horse on purpose, its always when the horse overestimates how they're going to get over that stick on the trail. It was plenty exciting. But I worry about all that weight coming down on the front legs to do it too much. But you can tell some horses just love it and that in itself is a wonderful thing.
Would you mind posting pictures or videos of when you were jumping from before? I've never seen any.

I jumped this weekend for the first time in almost 3 years. I thought of this thread afterwards. I have certainly lost my nerve. I was on my good friends broke to death schoolmaster and I was still nervous about a x-rail! I will say though, I got a bit of my confidence back once we'd been over it once or twice and even managed to do a small (2') course. Not meaning to thread-jack, just going through the same sort of thing. Hope your jumping is going well!

Unfortunately I don't have an indoor and it's too slick out with thin layer of ontop of ice, I do have his boots coming which have ice studs on all 4 but I think I'll wait till spring! I am quite excited about it still though and glad to hear I'm not the only one returning to it! 884530 Ooh. We need a horse jumping a fence icon!

Could there be "all but actual jumping" exercises you could do And take pictures of?
