Oh wow red - just seems trainers don't stick around very long there. I wonder if the barn is giving the trainers such a raw deal that anything is better. It sounds like a higher caliber barn so hopefully they can attract another good trainer. That's exciting that she will be riding Zippy in the next clinic. Be sure to bring your camera!!! Sadly I have heard it thru the grapevine, that the owners end up driving away the trainers. Hence the drama I've spoken of previously. They've fired 3 trainers in 3 years, the one I certainly understand,.., one I know nothing about,.., and the other had LOTS of health problems. This one is leaving of her own accord, so may not be able to use the indoor with her after the new trainer starts. Lord only knows??!!?? Sigh,..,

Wow! I have to be honest I did not ever realize that there was such a demand for trainers. The fact that the clinician offered her a position speaks volumes to her ability. Hopefully she sticks around a few more weeks and will give lessons on her visits back She explained that she will be working weekends with the clinician, and living with the BF, and returning certain days during the week for her students here,.., for now But, that will eventually change,., she was independently contracted by CF. And they already have another trainer waiting in the wings. I NEED the indoor so I can ride in all seasons,.., its been working great for me. So I may be forced to abandon her in favor of the new trainer,.., I guess we will see,.., sigh

I just found this thread, I was reading with such rapt attention this last bit about the trainer leaving and then you not being able to use the indoor came as such a let down for me I can't imagine how it must be for you.
What you said about being a trainer when you ride rather than a passenger, Oh Man I so identify. I had that epiphany last year really really clear when I realized I wanted Peaches to get to a trainer so that she'd be trained well enough that I wouldn't have to work so hard! I didn't really get clear on that until I got so incredibly disappointed with the two trainers we used. I wouldn't even call them trainers, I would just say that they knew how to ride and would explain that to their students. And over all I'm not at all happy with their horsemanship. People can talk a good game but what they show can be SO different.
I am gaining a bit of confidence one thin layer at a time by appreciating what I DO know, as little as it is. For instance just yesterday we went to see a gelding at a training barn. They were showing him to us and the intern was holding the horse by the halter and he had TERRIBLE ground manners. None of my horses act like that and they're all green broke but she was telling us that this horse was VERY broke. So evidently there is a distinction in some folks minds between a broke horse for riding and one that has ground manners. Not to me! And then what may be even worse, she didn't correct him! And she works with a trainer? Is the trainer like that?
ANYWAY, MY POINT IS you know a LOT from you lessons and you had a lot of skills before those lessons. So even if all you can do is practice what you have you still have what you need to get Zippy to a well trained horse that has excellent manners.
Our weather is cooling off in the next week and the dew points are also going down so hopefully it will happy for you too *crossing my fingers*

Thanks ,.., I have picked up A LOT of pointers with this trainer,.., just HATE to lose one so very good. She also LOVES Zippy and 'gets him',., she told me if I ever got rid of him, she'd love to buy him. Finally somebody sees his potential, his work ethic,.., and that he is a nice little horse. For now everything is fine, but I want to keep the momentum going, not lose ground again

Oh how I understand. Until I finally got myself to get out of bed before Gerald woke up I rarely got horse time. Being home is such a challenge for me to actually get things done I think are important because Gerald and I are hardly ever together so when we are we like to do things together, which isn't usually horse stuff or cleaning the house and yard lol I keep telling him that I NEED those three things. Anyway, he's out of town for a few days so I can clean and horse to my hearts content.

2 lessons this week,., working on the canter and that 'troublesome' left lead. Zippy is working so hard, and we are both getting so much out of our lessons. Still not completely sure the status of the instructor at this point, shes a VERY nice person, very professional, and a very talented rider,.., and we are just going with the flow for now. I can't begrudge anyone for bettering themselves, even if they end up moving away graphics-3d-smileys-082254
She wants to keep working with Zippy, so we continue to be on the same page. Am going to try to do 2 lessons a week thru August, and a clinic at the end of this month. So I need to be very well behaved at work and keep those tips coming in ,.., cause those training fees are not cheap.
Also, have made plans to send Zip back to Jess for 2 weeks in October for some extra trail miles, and a break from the ring work. That boy is getting expensive!!!!!

I tell my gelding all of the time that I could drive a sports car if it weren't for him!

Hmmm, I'm seeing this another way, tell me what you think (I know you will LOL!) The horse isn't asking you to better his left lead or whatever you think he needs to do. YOU'RE the one who "needs" all of that. So YOU'RE HIGH MAINTENANCE! Ah ha!
