She is so beautiful Lip. I love how you described goat hop. Haha. laughing Stormy does that, when he plays. He bounces like a deer, but has his tail curled up over his back. I can't imagine how you stayed on without a saddle. Good job.

Thank you diamond. When she is nervous she will curle also her tail on her back, make strange noices and bounce like a deer or a goat. She is just trying to have her own way and make me scared so that we go home and I leave her alone.

Unfortunately for our poor horses, we see them and our hearts go wild with excitement, and all we can do it think about how we need to ride them. We need to share in their strength, and taste their freedom. We yearn to feel their power, and by becoming one with them, as a rider, we share in their beauty.
Well if they didn't want to be ridden, then they shouldn't be so amazing.

She is a very smart mare. and herd leader. my mare would not look at me either lol because of her firm hand with the rest of the horses and her determination to do things her way. after a while she let it go with me and we became great friends and protectors of each other. your mare is the same.

Horselady you are right. Everyone in the herd is scared of her. She gets the best spot by the feeder, she drinks first, and bits the small ones when they need a lesson to learn. She is defiantly a alfa female.

Great job! A nice easy walk with nice, easy contact on the bit. You should be proud of yourself and of Gaetana as well.

I just did what you all have been telling me. Working her near the barn, turning her away when she go fast, and dismounting always in the different place....

Take a little from here and a little from there and a little more from someplace else and it eventually makes a whole. lol glad it works.

She may relapse a bit but I bet you will find she remembers pretty quickly once you start riding her again. They are smart animals and even though the may try to convince you they have forgotten some training that they really haven't.

I have come to realize that horses are compulsive about reality checks gotta always know they're okay. I suppose it's a confidence thing.
